Katie White's Educational Technology Showcase
Here is a collection of my work during my time in the Masters of Educational Technology program at MSU. This showcase represents who I am as a technology educator. From lessons plans to podcasts, to online courses, this is my work. Below you'll find the work organized into two parts; The first part is the Practical Application work, which I've designed and created and it's ready to implement within a classroom. The second part of this page contains work that I've explored and written about in papers on several Theories and Concepts related to educational technology.
Practical Application
This is an online math class for 3rd graders and other students learning multiplication. I created this in CEP 820 Teaching and Learning Online. I designed this online course to be Asynchronous in order to address the needs of my class. Many students are taking this course during their summer break to stay abreast their math skills. I've created all these lessons and activities to be done online and at the pace of each student.
This website was created to help students improve their multiplication skills. I created it during CEP 817 Learning Technology by Design. I've created all of the online lessons with my diverse class in mind. I also created the logo and chose the color scheme and images with elementary students in mind.
Taking technology in directions that are otherwise not obvious is what I've done with PowerPoint. I've created a STAIR (Stand Alone Instructional Resource) project which allows students to interact with a PowerPoint on Space. Through PowerPoint and manipulating it's features this lesson on Earth and it's position in Space has gone from a basic text book or web article lecture to an engaging and self-paced experience. You can either click through the still slides with the button above or get the full interactive lesson here by downloading the PowerPoint:

In my lesson plan titled ‘What Does ‘Mean’ Mean?‘ the terms mean, median, mode and range are addressed through an online game called Bamzooki at BBC.com. The lesson is aimed at 3rd Grade students but is adaptable for upper grades. This lesson was created during CEP 800 Learning in School & Other Settings where there was an emphasis on using technology to solve a problem in a lesson.
This work is from CEP 812 Applying Educational Technology to Practice and its aim is to tackle a difficult learning problem using technology. This is a lesson plan which allowed students to stay engaged while learning about paragraphs online. I learned about teaching online while creating this vodcast and I learned how to use Prezi.
Using Glogster, I created a multimedia digital poster. I linked relevant sites and embedded videos to make this poster engaging for elementary students. This poster includes dynamic graphics and a color theme I created with fact bubbles to keep students coming back to the poster after looking through the links. This poster shows my ability to use technology in meaningful and engaging ways all in one place.
Theories and Concepts
During our 1:1 iPad roll out I was at the center of the action as the tech coach for the grade piloting iPads. I noticed that some teachers were less thrilled than others to have iPads in their classrooms. With the guidance of CEP 815 Technology and Leadership, I created a proposal for a solution to this unfolding problem. The solution is a support network for teachers and by teachers.

I created this podcast while learning about different learning styles. This podcast focuses on social constructivism learning through the eyes of my 3 year old daughter while she was learning to somersault. As I studied learning styles I also learned about podcasting and how to best edit a podcast. Here you will find one of my early attempts.

This is another podcast I created, which uncovers a misconception on the bones in the human body. As I learned about learning styles in CEP 800 Learning in School & Other Settings I looked closely at what we think we know v. what we actually know. In this podcast I interviewed my husband about his knowledge of the human skeletal structure and found that what I was currently teaching my third graders doesn't always transfer into adulthood.

There has been some discussion on whether or not schools should continue to teach cursive in 3rd grade to focus more attention on teaching typing skills. I collected information and data from research articles to understand this debate further. This paper is what explains my findings. I wrote this during CEP 822 Approaches to Ed Research 34.0.
