CEP 810 Teaching Understanding with Technology
Instructor: Ms. Amy Pietrowski & Mr. Ben Rimes
This course was my first course of the MAET (Masters in Educational Technology) program. Under the guidance of Amy Pietrowski and Ben Rimes we looked at our Personal Learning Networks and basic tech tools such as Google Drive and Twitter. This was an interesting endeavor because I had recently moved from Germany to Indonesia so my PLN had become quite extensive. Throughout this course we learned about Angel's academic tools and how to navigate the LMS (learning management system). TPACK (Technological, Pedagogical, Content, Knowledge) was introduced during this course which has been a valuable part of my entire program and my professional life as well.
CEP 811 Adapting Innovative Tech to Ed
Instructor: Ms. Tammy Maginity
STAIR (Stand Alone Instructional Resource) projects were a main focus of this course taught by Tammy Maginity. We learned how to create these resources using Power Point by adapting the traditional use of Power Point and making it an interactive resource that students can use independently for an extended period of time. This resource opened my eyes to what learning can be with technology, and how I can use technology to reach a wide variety of learners. This was the forefront for my understanding of online learning as well as my role as a technology coach among my PLC (professional learning community). This was the first resource I shared with my colleagues, which I had created and could teach them to create as well.
Fall 2012
CEP 812 Apply Educ Tech to Practice
Instructor: Ms. Carolyn McCarthy
The Wicked Problem Project was the main focus for this course. This was a close look at wicked problems and how they are both mishandled and handled well and how technology can enhance how people approach problems. We also learned about tech tools that help engage students such as Voki voice recording applications. Under the guidance of Carolyn McCarthy and the course readings and lectures, I created a screen-cast and STAIR project using Google Docs to address a wicked problem in my own classroom. This screen cast and online unit were essential to tackling the wicked problem of students learning how to write a proper paragraph because at this time I was also on leave from teaching due to having a baby during the second half of the course. Technology and the empathic nature of Carolyn McCarthy I was able to teach paragraphing to my class from my own home. This method was effective because students were engaged by online discussions and work sharing. This helped to solve this wicked problem.

CEP 800 Learning in School & Other Settings
Instructors: Mr. Sean Leahy & Mrs. Hannah Klautke
The psychology of learning both in schools and other settings was examined during this course. We looked at a variety of aspects related to how people learn such as different learning styles. We examined these aspects and compared them with our own work situations and life. Through this course I developed a study on social construcivism through a look at my daughter's journey as she learned to summersault. We were also introducted to Audacity, Jing, and other podcasting applications. Using online tutorials provided by the course we learned about recording and editing podcasts. I use the knowledge I gained from this course on creating podcasts all the time. This came in especially handy during my online teaching course - CEP 820.
CEP 822 Approaches to Ed Research
Instructors: Dr. E. David Wong & Ms. Tatyana Vladimirovna Li
Researching research is what I learned to do during this course. We analyzed different research articles and learned how to compare the research with statistical methods. Each module had a quiz at the end for the readings and labs. It was a good way to ensure we had read carefully and new the important aspects of each reading or lab. After practicing on several research articles we then chose our own topic of interest to research. We applied our new understanding of research to our proposals. I chose to research the importance of cursive handwriting versus typing skills. We looked for authentic research to support our topic and I found this to be a difficult task because there is little research currently published on this topic.
Fall 2013
CEP 813 Electronic Portfolios
Instructor: Mr. Patrick Dickson
During this course we looked at exemplars of past students' portfolios and different platforms. We decided on a platform that best fits our needs and styles. I explored Google Sites, WordPress, and Weebly. I am familiar with all three but I find time and time again that Weebly best fits my design tactics and the ease of use is just what I needed. Under the helpful watch of Patrick Dickson we carefully built our portfolios based on our own needs. For myself, I choose to build a professional site for self promotion including my resume and educational philosophy, as well as, a place to combine all of my educational sites. This has been a valuable resource that has been edited and revised under the guidance of Patrick Dickson as well as subsequent instructors. Patrick took his instructor role a step further and offered a personal touch to his communication and feedback offering to keep in touch if students were in need of advice beyond the dates of the course.
CEP 815 Technology and Leadership
Instructors: Mr. Luke Rapa & Mr. Josh Rosenberg
Confidence in a leadership role is what this course gave me and the other participants. We explored various leadership styles and chose several that we could identify with as we looked at how technology played different roles in learning. We also addressed a common problem in education that technology could address. For myself I addressed the challenge of differentiating math. Through this course I researched and decided on technology solutions for this problem. I wrote a proposal to my school explaining my solution and how it would be feasible within a reasonable budget and sustainable as well with the school's resources. Once this course was complete I felt like I could aim for a leadership role within education. Luke Rapa and Josh Roesnberg not only lead the course they supported the students through communication beyond expectations.

CEP 817 Learning Technology through Design
Instructors: Dr. Punya Mishra & Mr. Jon Good
Dr. Mishra, and Jon Good started off this course in an engaging way I had yet to experience during this program. We began by writing a story that was limited to only 55 words. We judged each others stories and gave feedback. This started a series of digital conversations between the students in each of their groups which lasted the length of the course and sometimes beyond. During each module we looked at different examples of good and bad design gathered and presented by each group. This was an engaging activity and it got the students of the course talking. Another large aspect if this course was looking at the elements of design using the article by Scott McCloud on the six steps of design: idea, purpose, idiom, structure, craft, and surface as well as good design. During this course we created our own website to address a topic in our jobs. I chose to create a website for teaching multiplication to 3rd Graders and students close to this age. This site has been a valuable resource evolved using McCloud's six steps of design, feedback from group members and the instructors. I felt this course was one of those most effective to online asynchronous classes. Our group work was effective and friendships/work relationships stemmed from this course.
CEP 820 Teaching Students Online
Instructors: Ms. Sandra F. Sawaya, Ms. Ann Heintz, & Mr. Spencer Greenhalgh
Throughout this course we built an online course after exploring past students' exemplars and choosing a platform. We studied the terms LMS (learning management system) and CMS (course management system). We chose a topic to teach with our online course. I chose math again as it's an important part of differentiation in my classroom this year with students two levels above and two levels below grade level. We learned about the key aspects of LMSs and which platforms foster these aspects and which ones would require the designer to create the aspects such as blog or a contact tool. My LMS took shape through readings and feedback from both peers and instructors. This was a very useful class and experience because I will be using this for my own students for years to come and help it to grow into an even deeper resource. I introduced this to my class at the end of this year and had many families say they would be using it through the summer to keep their math skills fresh. This course also completed my Certificate in Online Teaching.

CEP 807 Capstone Ed Technology
Instructor: Dr Matthew J. Koehler, Mr. Josh Rosenberg, Mr. Spencer Greenhalgh, & Ms. Brittany Dillman
Dr. Koehler along with Josh Rosenberg, Spencer Greenhalgh, and Brittany Dillman lead us through our final course in the MAET program. During this course we polished our portfolios while giving and receiving feedback with our peers and instructors. This course also allowed us to look back on our experiences in the MAET program and reflect on all that we've gained.
